Giving Buddy a personality through motion.

WeightBuddy needed a wide range of animations without adding unnecessary weight to the app. The challenge was to animate a detailed mascot, build a reusable rig for consistent future motion, and give Buddy a supportive personality that could feel like a friend throughout each user’s health journey.

I rebuilt the mascot’s outlines as pure strokes, replacing complex shapes with fewer points to make the character easier to animate and keep file sizes small. The rig focused on a structured head and a flexible body, allowing each movement to feel more dynamic while remaining consistent. Every gesture was kept minimal but meaningful, carefully avoiding poses that could feel judgmental or insensitive in a health-focused experience.
